About Our Dairy

In accordance with North Carolina law, Woodcrest Farm holds a pet food permit for dispensing raw milk as animal feed. As a permit holder, we agree to allow the state to test our pet milk at any time. We also encourage our customers to be familiar with our farm, our animals, and our milking process.  For sanitary reasons we can not allow customers in the dairy facilities without a Woodcrest Farm community member present, but please don't hesitate to speak with us to request a tour or to sit in on a milking.

About Our Jars

About Our Label

Our pet milk jars are labeled in accordance with North Carolina laws pertaining to raw milk and labeling requirements for pet food.

General Statute 130A-279 on the "Sale or dispensing of milk" states that "any raw milk or raw milk product dispensed as animal feed shall include on its label the statement 'NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION' in letters at least one-half inch in height. Any raw milk or raw milk product dispensed as animal feed shall also include on its label the statement "IT IS NOT LEGAL TO SELL RAW MILK FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION IN NORTH CAROLINA."

The Guaranteed analysis is based on a recent sample of our pet milk. The unusually high fat content of the cows' pet milk is due to the fact that, unlike grocery store whole milk, our cows' pet milk is full-cream, from Jersey cows (our goats' milk is also full-cream).

At Woodcrest Farm we care about the health and well-being of our animals and yours. We take measures to ensure a safe and healthy pet milk supply, including: washing and sterilizing all returned jars in a dedicated dishwasher, air drying, sealing, and storing jars in a dedicated area, thoroughly washing and drying udders prior to each milking, completely disassembling milking machine after each milking, washing each part in hot soapy bleach water, and air drying prior to reassemble, cooling pet milk in a dedicated refrigerator immediately after each milking, maintaining our milking facility in as clean and dry a condition as possible, keeping our dairy animals pastured, ans supplementing their grass diet with dry, locally-milled dairy feed. However, we want our customers to be aware that dairy animals can carry harmful bacteria, like listeria, without detectable symptoms. Despite our best efforts, it is impossible to guarantee a germ-free supply without pasteurization. If you have questions about the risk of bacterial infection from raw milk, we encourage you to talk to your veterinarian.

In order to keep costs down, reduce waste, and keep things running efficiently, we rely on customers to return all labels, jars, and lids. It is important that we get the same jar, with the same lid and the same label, every week. To avoid re-paying deposits, we recommend: When a jar is empty, 1. Rinse the jar and lid with hot, soapy water to remove milk film, or run in dishwasher. 2. Seal jar with the same lid. 3. Return sealed jar to barn kitchen in designated area so that we can sanitize the jar.
